All About Attune Music Therapy

Catherine Watkins is the Director of Attune Music Therapy.

Catherine established Attune Music Therapy in 2014 in response to the severe lack of provision of Music Therapy for individuals with neurodisability and acquired brain injury. Catherine is passionate about Music Therapy, about the benefits it can deliver for individuals and about educating professionals and the general population through Attune Music Therapy.

Catherine qualified as a Music Therapist in 2012 from University of the West of England, gaining a distinction in her Masters in Music Therapy. In 2014, she completed advanced Music Therapy training in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT).  She is a vocalist and pianist, having an ABRSM Diploma in Vocal Performance and Grade 7 Piano, plays guitar and engages clients with a wide variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments.

Her clinical work is psychodynamically-informed and client-centred, using a wide variety of musical techniques and evidence based practice to deliver outcomes with clients. Catherine has worked as a freelance Music Therapist in learning disability and neurodisability settings prior to establishing Attune Music Therapy.

Prior to studying as a music therapist, Catherine gained a Chemistry degree from University of Nottingham and worked within the pharmaceutical industry for 15+ years, leading clinical trials for new medicines in Stroke Prevention, Oncology and Respiratory Disease. She has a strong background in medical science, multidisciplinary team working within large organisations and quantitative research.
